Through the efforts of the Perennial Garden Club, BWS was the winner of the Garden Club of America’s prestigious Founders Club Award, a $25,000 prize for landscape renovations. Our “living classroom” is an educational space allows the integration of our hands-on curriculum with nature and fosters students’ minds and spirits to grow with environmental awareness.
With the support of the Friends of the National Arboretum, BWS has also been identified as a Washington Youth Garden Program “Garden Science” partner school. The intensive, multi-year commitment allows us to build a garden science program by developing our school’s internal capacity to independently utilize and sustain a school garden program. Teacher training, field trips, and an engaging curriculum support our STEM focus.
