Welcome

Thank you for your interest in the Bishop John T. Walker School for Boys. The Bishop Walker School is a private Episcopal school which strives to ignite in boys a love for learning and a commitment to serve others. In an intellectually rich and socially engaging environment, we seek to alter the academic and social trajectory of boys living east of the Anacostia River. The Bishop Walker School is rooted in the tradition of Episcopal schools’ commitment to academic excellence and moral development, research on the intellectual and socio-emotional needs of boys and a progressive approach to teaching and learning.

During the 2016-2017 school year, we will serve students from grades Kindergarten - 6th grade. We seek students and their families who will be actively engaged in the life of the school and committed to upholding the school’s mission and academic and behavioral expectations. Consideration is given to applicants whose families are low-income and reside east of the Anacostia River, who come from families likely to participate in his education, and/or who have siblings at the Bishop Walker School.

Please contact Admissions Director Herb Scott at admissions@bishopwalkerschool.org if you would like to schedule an interview or if you have any questions.

Each year our school receives many worthy applications. Please note that during the admissions season it is not possible to take indivual calls regarding applications. We appreciate your understanding.

We are accepting applications for the 2017-2018 school year beginning December 15, 2016.

We welcome boys and families from all religious faiths, racial and cultural backgrounds, and family structures.

THE APPLICATION PROCESS
The admission process to the Bishop Walker School consists of 4 steps.

1. Complete an application form found here, and submit it to the Bishop Walker School by mail, in person or email to admissions@bishopwalkerschool.org. We will begin accepting applications on December 15, 2016. Please note that the applications submitted by January 15, 2017 have priority. To submit an application after January 15, 2017, you must also complete a waitlist form, which can be found here. Please refer to the following for information regarding the admission  process.  A decision will be made once your son's file is complete.

2. Submit a TANF statement or a copy of last year’s tax returns. If an applicant resides with both parents or receives financial support from a non-custodial parent, both parents/guardians must submit financial documents.

3. Provide the Confidential Teacher Recommendation Form and the Transcript Release Form to applicant’s current school. The current school should send the requested information to the Bishop Walker School.

 4. Register for an admissions assessment at the Bishop Walker School by clicking here. This assessment informs us about an applicant's social and intellectual development.

Only completed applications will be considered for admission. The Admissions Committee carefully considers the potential for each applicant to thrive academically, socially and emotionally at BWS. Families will be notified of the school's decisions in writing.

Applicants applying Kindergarten must be 5 years old by September 1, 2017.

BWS and the DC Opportunity Scholarship Program:

BWS is a proud participant in the DC Opportunity Scholarship Program. The program provides scholarship vouchers to DC residents who meet specific income requirements. All elligible families must apply prior to submitting their BWS application.

Because students who are already attending private schools are not eligible to enroll in the program, BWS encourages all applicants to apply for the DC Opportunity Scholarship before enrolling at BWS.
